Just Breathe!

Practicing relaxation breathing for just a few minutes each day can go a long way in promoting health. Place your hand on your belly. Exhale normally. Then inhale and allow your breath to expand your belly. Exhale and contract your belly.

Once you have practiced this and feel comfortable with it, consider these variations:
  • Say to yourself "I am" with inhalation and "relaxed" with exhalation.
  • Experiment wiht how deeply you inhale.
  • Experiment with sitting, standing, or lying down.
  • Engage more of your body in the exercise - allow air to expand your belly, then your chest, to the point that your shoulders rise, hold for a few seconds, then release.
